Lodge Construction
Built for the landscape.
We’re a husband-and-wife team who design and build lodges in some of Africa’s most beautiful and remote places.
We believe that good buildings come from understanding the land, respecting the people who live and work there, and being present throughout the process.
We take on a select number of projects, allowing us to stay personally involved in every build. You’ll find us on site, working alongside our teams, and paying attention to the details that matter.
Because to us, how something is built matters just as much as what we leave behind.

What we do
A different way
of doing things.
We believe in showing up, keeping our word and standing behind our work. In being hands-on, not managing from a distance. In creating spaces that respect the land, feel right in their surroundings and work as well as they look. We believe in investing in the people who build alongside us, sharing knowledge and creating opportunities that last beyond the project. Most of all, we believe trust is earned through the everyday things: honesty, accountability, attention to detail and treating every project as if it were our own.
These aren’t complicated ideas. They’re simply the principles we try to bring to work every day.
We believe in…

Personally involved, from start to finish.
We like knowing the people we work with. We like being on site, seeing a project take shape, finding solutions when things don’t go to plan, and being able to stand behind what we’ve built.
Our projects often take us far from the convenience of towns and cities, where materials, labour, weather and logistics all present their own challenges. We’ve come to understand that building in these environments requires patience, adaptability and a willingness to get involved.
One team, from beginning to end.
From the first idea to the final detail, we bring architecture, construction and interiors together so that those decisions aren’t made in isolation.
Architecture
We believe good design starts with listening. Understanding the land, the people who will use the space, and what the lodge needs to achieve, both practically and experientially. Our approach considers the environment, the way a lodge operates and how its buildings will feel to the people who spend time in them.
Construction
Remote construction comes with its own challenges. Access, deliveries, weather, existing lodge operations and the realities of working far from suppliers. We plan carefully, stay involved and work through these challenges on the ground. Our experience lies in high-end construction, where the quality of the finished work matters.
Interiors
We see interiors as a natural continuation of the architecture, rather than something added at the end. By considering the inside and outside together, we aim to create spaces that feel connected, practical and comfortable, with materials and finishes suited to their surroundings.
Our clients.
Our clients are at the center of everything we do.

Our People – Building beyond the project
Building skills. Creating opportunities.
The places where we work are home to communities with people who have enormous potential, but not always the opportunity to develop it. Where possible, we employ people from communities surrounding our projects, giving them the opportunity to learn practical construction skills while earning a living.
We invest in training, provide tools and help our team members gain training certificates that they can take with them beyond their time with Miako. Some arrive with experience. Others are learning a trade for the first time.
We believe that the knowledge and skills people gain on a construction site should stay with them long after the project is finished. A completed building is something we’re proud of. But seeing someone leave a project with new skills, confidence and opportunities is just as meaningful to us.
